Please Cover Road Salt Storage Piles

The Engineering Department would like to advise owners of townhouses, condos, apartments, and businesses that road salt storage piles for winter de-icing must be covered with tarps or other methods to prevent exposure to rain, snow, or stormwater runoff. This is an NJDEP requirement and municipalities must enforce best management practices to help with salt contamination of our streams, rivers, and other stormwater facilities. Property owners can go to the NJDEP website for further information on this topic.
