Frequently Asked Questions

Message from Chief McMahon
Chief Michael McMahon would like to update our residents and visitors regarding the precautions that we are taking to protect both our citizens and our employees.

As a result of Covid-19, it has become necessary to put a temporary patrol response plan in place. This plan allows for our police officers to take reports over the phone for calls that do not require evidence to be collected, an on scene investigation to be conducted or otherwise require an officer to respond to a scene. Residents having incidents meeting this criteria shall give their information and telephone number to the dispatcher as normal and will be contacted back by an officer to determine the course of action and if a physical response is needed.

Our officers will be practicing social distancing and avoiding contact with you to the extent possible.

Non -emergency fingerprinting and all community policing events including our YMCA basketball nights will be suspended until further notice. Firearms applications will only be accepted online.

Residents needing to pick up a police report should contact the Records Bureau at 908-369-4584 before coming to the Police Department. Arrangements can be made to email or transmit a report in another fashion while avoiding unnecessary contact.

The Police Department Lobby is open however residents are encouraged to contact us by phone at 908-369-4323 before coming in if possible.

The goal of these temporary procedures is to help decrease unnecessary contact and reduce the risk of person to person transmission of novel coronavirus.

These are unprecedented times. There is no need to panic, but there is a lot of reasons to take this seriously and follow the advice of the CDC and Health Departments in order to "flatten the curve" as intended.

Rest assured, if you contact 911 with an emergency, you will receive the same professional response from our officers that you are accustomed to.

We must do our best to limit unnecessary exposure to our officers so that they are still able to serve you during this time. Thank you for your understanding.

Hillsborough is a strong community. Once we all move past this, I can assure you that the Hillsborough Township Police Department will return to normal operations.

Chief Michael McMahon
We would like to thank everyone who lives, works, visits and calls Hillsborough home for their continued understanding during this difficult time.  Your effort and cooperation are what makes this town one of the best places to live
