DPW Mailbox Replacement Policy

DPW investigates each complaint regarding mailboxes damaged during snow removal. If an inspection shows that the mailbox was hit by a snow plow or other Hillsborough DPW equipment, Hillsborough Township DPW will replace the broken mailbox and/or post. However, if the damage was caused by thrown snow or ice coming off the plow, mailbox repair is the responsibility of the property owner. DPW doesn't fix leaning mailboxes. Residents are encouraged to make temporary repairs to damaged mailboxes. Hillsborough Township will make repairs, if applicable after all storm clean-up is complete. Mailbox posts that are loose in the ground are the resident’s responsibility to secure. Only mailboxes that are broken will be repaired. All mailbox repair/replacement requests must be received by June 1st of each year. Please contact DPW at 908-369-3950 if your mailbox was damaged during the recent storm.
