Lung Cancer Awareness Month
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among men and women in the United States with an estimated 238,340 people diagnosed with lung cancer in 2023. In fact, 1 in 16 people will be diagnosed with lung cancer in their lifetime and approximately 127,070 American lives are lost annually to this disease
The acronym BREATHE can help you to recognize the signs of lung cancer. Blood when coughing, Recurring respiratory infections, Enduring cough, Aching in the shoulder, back, or chest, Trouble breathing, Hoarseness, and Exhaustion.
Early detection of high-risk lung cancer cases can reduce the chance of death by 20%. Approximately 8 million Americans are at high risk for lung cancer and can benefit from a lung cancer screening. Low-dose CT Scan screening tests can reduce mortality for those at high risk. If lung cancer is caught early, the likelihood of surviving five or more years improves by 60%.
November is dedicated to lung cancer prevention and awareness through education and early detection and we encourage all to be aware of the symptoms and seek early screenings if at high risk.
