Hillsborough Township Announces Third Annual Scarecrow Festival

Residents, organizations, youth groups, and businesses are invited to participate

“Hillsborough Township is pleased to announce the third annual Scarecrow Festival will once again take place this fall,” announced Mayor Shawn Lipani at the August 22nd Township Committee meeting. “Registration for this fun, interactive event opens Friday, August 25th. Beginning October 1st, Scarecrows will be maintaining vigilance on the grounds of the Hillsborough Municipal Complex.”

All Township residents, businesses, organizations, classrooms, and sports teams are invited to start planning. Over the past two years, about 40 scarecrows lined “Scarecrow Lane” along the rain garden at the Municipal Complex, and organizers are hoping to see even more crows aloft in 2023.

This annual fall event has been growing in popularity since its inception in 2021. Among the creative, handcrafted crows that stood watch over the parking lot in previous years were pirate crows, police crows, Rapunzel, Minions, storybook characters, and many traditional scare-type crows.

Beginning August 25th, interested parties can register by filling out the form located on the Hillsborough Township website, Facebook page, and Mayor’s eNews and Experience Hillsborough Newsletters. A registration link will also be sent to Hillsborough businesses, which are encouraged to use this unique opportunity as a way to forge new relationships.

Residents will be able to vote on their favorite scarecrows throughout the month of October through QR codes located throughout the area or via a form located on the Township website.

“So shake a tail feather because the deadline to register for the 2023 Scarecrow Festival is Wednesday, September 15th,” concluded Mayor Lipani.

The scarecrows will be on display throughout the month of October.
