Tax Preparation Services Available

United Way of Northern New Jersey and its partners are providing free tax preparation to low and moderate-income individuals and persons with disabilities.  The services are available through an online portal for a fully contactless process or drop-off appointments at some locations.  To schedule an appointment call 973.993.1160, x521 or visit This email address is being protected from spambots. Somerset County’s Volunteer Services and AARP have once again teamed up to provide the Tax-Aide program to help residents prepare their taxes. The free, tax-counseling service is available to all county residents, but specifically for older adults, residents with disabilities, and lower-income residents who need help preparing federal and New Jersey income tax returns.

The Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) provides significant economic relief to help low and moderate-income households at risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability by providing support for rental or utility arrears, and temporary rental assistance.

  • Rental assistance for residents facing rental debt, potential eviction, or loss of housing security
  • The program provides up to 12 months in arrears and 6 months for current and future rents for residents that meet all eligibility criteria

To qualify for this program, the applicant must be a resident of Somerset County and must meet the income/household guidelines below:

Examples of income: 

2 person household  can make up to 66 thousand dollars

4 person household can make up to 82 thousand 550 dollars
