Well Water Testing

DATE OF EVENT: October 23, 2021
TIME: 2 pm - 5 pm
LOCATION: HILLSBOROUGH MUNICIPAL COMPLEX (rear parking lot, in between the library and police department).
EVENT DETAILS: Hillsborough Township, in partnership with Raritan Headwaters, is hosting a WELL WATER TESTING EVENT.  Any resident that would like to have their well water tested may purchase a test kit at a discounted rate at this event. Representatives will be on site to answer any question you may have regarding your well water.

Once participants purchase a test kit, they will be given instructions on how to properly take the sample.  The sample must then be returned to the same location on October 25, 2021 between 7 am and 9:30 am, so that it can be delivered to the state certified testing laboratory.

RESULTS WILL BE MAILED DIRECTLY TO PARTICIPANTS APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS AFTER SUBMISSION OF SAMPLE.

Some of the tests that will be available:

• Basic Kit (includes coliform bacteria, e.coli, & nitrate. Should be tested for every year) $60.
• Arsenic (More than 20% of wells sampled in Hillsborough exceed the safe drinking water standards for arsenic)  $35.
• Radon (Somerset County is a High-Risk area for Radon. Should be tested at least once) $50.
• Gross Alpha (test for uranium and radium. Should be tested at least once)  $80.
• Other tests will also be available (see health department website for more details and available testing options).
• Acceptable forms of payment: checks, cash, and credit cards.

*IT MUST BE NOTED THAT RESULTS FROM THIS EVENT DO NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE NJ PRIVATE WELL TEST ACT. In order to qualify for the PWTA, samples must be collected by a certified professional and collected from the well head.

FACE MASKS ARE REQUIRED, AND PLEASE MAINTAIN A 6’ DISTANCE.
