Help Reduce Flooding by Cleaning Out Catch Basins and Inlets

The Engineering Department advises that the drainage catch basins and inlets on newly paved roads have smaller openings to prevent bottles, cans, and other debris from entering the storm system. This is a DEP requirement. These smaller openings are prone to clogging from bottles, cans, and especially leaves.

To help with flooding, the Engineering Department appreciates if homeowners that have drainage inlets near their property please clean the debris from the top of these inlets. This can help with reducing flooding onto properties and the roadway, allowing inlets to work properly. Every year, the Department of Public Works goes around town to maintain the catch basins but the Township has thousands of inlets so any help is always appreciated.
