Hillsborough Township Promotes Mark Szymanski to Lieutenant
The Hillsborough Township Committee promoted one police officer from the Department to fill a vacancy in the position of Lieutenant, at Tuesday’s Township Committee meeting.
“There exists a vacancy within the Department as a result of a recent retirement, and because of the vast experience base we have within the Police Department we are able to promote Lieutenant Mark Szymanski to fill this vacancy,” stated Mayor Shawn Lipani.
Lieutenant Mark Szymanski is a 24 year veteran of the Department and, during his career, worked as an officer in the Patrol Division from 1997 to 2000 and 2005 to 2013. Lieutenant Szymanski also worked in the Services Division and Community Policing Bureau 2000 to 2002 and was a School Resource Officer at Hillsborough Middle School from 2002 to 2003 and at Hillsborough High School from 2003 to 2005. Then the Patrol Division from July 2007 to 2017. He was appointed Corporal in May of 2013 of the Patrol Division until 2016 where he was assigned to the Investigative Division and a Juvenile Officer until 2017. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2017 in the Patrol Division, was assigned to the Services Division, Training Bureau in 2019. Lieutenant Szymanski will be assigned as the Patrol Division Commander.
Lieutenant Szymanski has received many command citations, commendations, letters of appreciation and favorable performance notices.
“Congratulations to Lieutenant Szymanski on his promotion; we wish him much continued success in his new role,” concluded Mayor Shawn Lipani.
Due to the COVID-19 public health emergency, Lieutenant Szymanski’s swearing in ceremony was held privately at the Peter J. Biondi Municipal Building, after his official appointment.
