Hillsborough Township Committee Denounces Racism
In light of the recent tragedies in Minneapolis, Minnesota and throughout the nation that have again shone a light on racism, the Hillsborough Township Committee passed a resolution at Tuesday’s meeting condemning racism.
“We are profoundly saddened by the deaths and condemn all forms of racism,” stated Mayor Doug Tomson when the resolution was taken separately for a roll call vote.
“As a Township and a Community we support and protect all of our residents regardless of ethnicity, race, faith, sexual orientation, or gender. In fact, we took a proactive approach earlier this year and on January 28, 2020 issued a proclamation in honor of the National Day of Racial Healing,” added Mayor Tomson.
The January 28th proclamation recognized and acknowledged the “National Day of Racial Healing” which was January 21, 2020. The National Day of Racial Healing (NDORH) offers people, organizations, and communities across the United States, opportunities to recognize the need for racial healing and brings people together to take collective action for a more just and equitable world.
This recent resolution further exemplifies Hillsborough’s commitment to anti-racism, racial healing, and urges all citizens to work together to ensure the best quality of life for our community.
The resolution passed with a unanimous affirmative vote and is attached to this release.
