Hillsborough Building Department Embraces New Technology
Online Permitting and Plan Review System to Launch on October 9th
Hillsborough Township homeowners can save themselves a trip to the Municipal Building with a new online permitting and plan review system.
The new system, which is accessed through the SDL portal on the Township website, will streamline the building permit process by cutting down on paper usage and storage. The new process will also decrease office visits and phone calls and save time by offering online payments.
“The new permitting and plan review system is being paid for by a grant from the American Rescue Plan and comes at no cost to taxpayers,” announced Mayor Robert Britting, Jr. at the September 24th Township Committee meeting.
The platform currently hosts eight types of permit application templates and allows homeowners to upload their permit applications from home. “Hillsborough Township is the first town in the area to offer online permitting and plan review services,” said Construction Official John Fiedler. “The Building Department is very excited to offer this service and we look forward to offering more online applications as the system evolves. Our goal is to offer 80% of permitting to be submitted online.”
The new technology will launch on October 9th, 2024.
“The SDL team is proud to partner with Hillsborough Township as the first municipality in the area to launch the new electronic permitting and online plan review services,” said Dee Petrosino-Haege, Vice President of Customer Success with SDL. “We've enjoyed collaborating with the Township to provide residents with more convenient access to services, and we’re excited to help Hillsborough continue enhancing the way they serve their community.”
