Message from US Dept. of Commerce, Office of Security, Regarding Upcoming Census

We received the following message from the US Dept. of Commerce, Office of Security, regarding the upcoming Census…

Census survey operations will begin on January 16, 2020, and continue through March 30, 2020. Your cooperation is important as a complete and accurate count is important will determine the number of seats each state has in the House of Representatives, it determines congressional and state legislative districts, and defines how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding are allocated to more than 100 programs, including Medicaid, Head Start, block grants for community mental health services, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP.

If someone visits your home to collect a response for the 2020 Census, make sure that they have a valid ID badge, with their photograph, a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark, and an expiration date. The Census Bureau will never ask you for your Social Security number, money or donations, anything on behalf of a political party, your bank or credit card account numbers. If someone claiming to be from the Census Bureau asks you for one of these things, it’s a scam, and you should not cooperate. If you still have questions about their identity, you can call 800-923-8282 to speak with a local Census Bureau representative.
