Who can draw building plans?

  • Contractors Can Not Prepare Plans.
  • Homeowners may prepare plans for a project if the proposed work is at their primary residence. Homeowners who prepare plans must sign both copies in original ink as well as check off box B and sign the Certification in Lieu of Oath found on the inside of the permit jacket. If it is not the homeowner’s primary residence, the plans must be prepared by a New Jersey licensed Architect – submitted with original signature and raised seal on all pages.
  • Please note that diagrams for piping and venting may be drawn by licensed contractors. See the Building Department for more information.
