On Saturday, December 1st, the trails at 29 East Mountain Road will be dedicated to long time Flagtown resident, Michael Merdinger. The ceremony naming the area as Mike Merdinger Memorial Trails will be held at 11am.
Mr. Merdinger served Hillsborough Township as a dedicated civil servant and held many key positions within the community. He served on the Township Committee in 1979 and again in 1981 through 1984 and served as the Township’s Mayor in 1984. Throughout the years, he also held the positions of Township Administrator and Acting Township Clerk.
In 1987, Mr. Merdinger began serving on the Hillsborough Municipal Utilities Authority and held the Chairman position within that organization for 10 years. Mr. Merdinger also served on the Township’s Planning Board for 17 years and held the Secretary, Vice Chairman and Chairman position during his tenure.
Mr. Merdinger was also an active volunteer within the community for over 30 years. He was a longtime member of the Flagtown Fire Company, even holding the President’s role within the company, and a member of the Hillsborough Rotary Club for 31 years.
Members of the public are invited to observe the Mike Merdinger Memorial Trails dedication ceremony. “It is with pleasure that we honor Mike’s memory with this dedication,” stated Mayor Gloria McCauley.
