Each year the Hillsborough Township Police Department selects “Top Cops”, one from each Patrol Squad, to be recognized for their exceptional performance for the previous year. The award recipients are determined based on a score devised from the Annual Job Performance Evaluations, along with a ranking achieved from their respective supervisors and peers.

Patrolman Scott McCarthy and Patrolman Christopher Peltack are recognized for the highest ranking on each of the two Patrol Squads. “Top Cops” are formally recognized by the Department, the Mayor, and Township Committee and receive an acknowledgment in their personnel file. In addition, Officers McCarthy and Peltack will have their names engraved on a plaque displayed in the lobby of Police Headquarters honoring each year’s recipients since the program’s inception in 1996. In addition, they will be awarded a merit bar that is worn above their uniform badge.

“Congratulations to these two veteran officers on their exemplary service to the Township, earning them this distinct honor,” commented Mayor Frank DelCore.

“It is our honor to recognize our Top Cops for 2018,” added Committeewoman Gloria McCauley, Liaison to Public Safety.
Patrolman McCarthy has been a member of the Hillsborough Police Dept since 2008 and has served in the Patrol Division during the entirety of that time. He is the recipient of several Command Citations, as well as several Supervisory Commendations. He also serves as one of the Departments Field Training Officers and has recently become a Certified Firearms Instructor. This is his third time being selected as Top Cop, having previously been selected in 2015 and 2017.
Patrolman Peltack has been a member of the Hillsborough Police Dept since 2013 and has served in the Patrol Division during the entirety of that time. He is the recipient of several Command Citations, as well as several Supervisory Commendations. He received the MADD Law Enforcement Distinguished Service Award in 2016 for his efforts in enforcing DWI Laws. Ptlm. Peltack also serves as one of the Departments Field Training Officers and has recently been certified as a Drug Recognition Expert. This is his first time being selected as Top Cop for Hillsborough Township.

“What makes this award significant is that the award recipients are selected by their peers,” commented Hillsborough Police Chief Darren Powell.
