At the February 26, 2019 Township Committee Meeting, the Mayor and Township Committee honored Alexander Silveira Mindish, a Sophomore at Hillsborough High School and a member of Boy Scout Troop 489, for earning the rank of Eagle Scout.

Alexander’s Eagle Scout project consisted of planning, fundraising, and building a pedestrian bridge at the Sourland Mountains Preserve, benefitting Somerset Parks and Recreation as well as local hikers and mountain bikers.  He built the bridge with the help of 5 leaders and 8 scouts over 94.5 hours. Today bikers and hikers can travel the path without having to traverse a flooded ravine.

Alexander served as Troop Guide and Den Chief. He is currently Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. He attained the rank of Eagle with 31 merit badges.

Alexander is involved in the Hillsborough High School Marching Band and is an honor student. He has been a Counselor In Training (CIT) for the YMCA for the past 4 summers.

Alexander serves as an example to the youth of Hillsborough Township through his high level of leadership and community service, and we are very proud that he is a member of our community.
