The Township of Hillsborough's Public Works Department operates and maintains the infrastructure of the Township's two hundred and fifty plus miles of roadway, maintains all municipal grounds and buildings and Township Open Space. The Department works closely with the Police Department in monitoring road and safety conditions in the Township, and responds to emergencies as needed.

Public Works also oversees the Annual Spring Clean Up, operates and staffs the Township reclamation/disposal center and the fall leaf collection. The Public Works Garage maintains/repairs all Township owned vehicles and equipment.

The annual Township Memorial Day Parade and Fourth of July celebration are among the many community oriented affairs the Department takes part in.

Hillsborough Township 2013 Annual Clean-Up

RESIDENTS ONLY

TICKETS AVAILABLE MARCH 18th

150 Coupons Per Date - First Come First Serve Basis

The Drop-off Site is open RAIN or SHINE.

 

The purpose of clean-up day is to allow residents the opportunity to dispose of old furniture, toys, rugs, appliances, bicycles, yard clean-up, hot water tanks, old furnaces, etc. NO ELECTRONICS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

DIRECTIONS TO AUTEN ROAD SITE - adjacent to the railroad tracks on Auten Road, north of Triangle Road. 

RAIN OR SHINE

Dump hours 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

 

THE AUTEN ROAD SITE WILL BE OPEN ON THE FIRST AND LAST SATURDAY OF THE FOLLOWING MONTHS:

MAY 4 and MAY 25
JUNE 1 and JUNE 29
JULY 6 and JULY 27
AUGUST 3 and AUGUST 31
SEPTEMBER 7 and SEPTEMBER 28
OCTOBER 5 and OCTOBER 26
 
Coupons will be available for the above dates and will be distributed on a “first come first serve basis”. ONE COUPON (one date) PER HOUSEHOLD for the year. ONLY 150 COUPONS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED FOR EACH DATE.
 
SENIORS ONLY: 
 
SENIOR CURBSIDE PICKUP RULES & REGULATIONS:
The senior citizen curbside pick-up will begin in MAY and continue until completed.  See dates below. 

(1)  Coupons available at Public Works office 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Must present proof of residency and age 65 and older.
 

(2)  Stickers will be issued – ten (10) items maximum – boxed or bundled items count as one. One sticker per item. No sticker required for brush.

(3)  Items without a sticker will be left. Items added to your pile become your responsibility.

(4)  Township broken into four sections your date and section will be determined when your coupon is issued

Curbside Senior Pickup Will Begin On:
 
    Northwest Section         MONDAY               April 29
  Southwest Section         MONDAY               May 6
    Northeast Section          MONDAY               May 13
    Southeast Section          MONDAY               May 20
 


All residents will be required to:

  • APPLY FOR COUPONS AT THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS coupons will be available from  MARCH 19 TO APRIL 30 ONLY (150 coupons per date; first come first serve basis): 21 East Mountain Road (behind the old Municipal Building and next door to the YMCA)
  • Show proof of residency (present vehicle registration of the vehicle to be used) in order to be issued a coupon for the Annual Clean-up.
  • Coupons can be obtained Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. 
  • Senior Citizens need to present proof of age (must be 65+) [refer to SENIOR CURBSIDE PICKUP RULES AND REGULATIONS ]
  •  ONLY 150 COUPONS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED FOR EACH DATE
  • ONE COUPON PER HOUSEHOLD – ONE DATE ONLY
  • DUMP OPEN RAIN OR SHINE
     
  • ALL APPLICANTS MUST PRESENT COUPON AT THE SITE

Leaf Pick-Up & Drop Off Program

HILLSBOROUGH TOWNSHIP LEAF PICK UP:

Start date for leaf pick up is November 5th

Program will run through December 2012 (weather permitting)

Leaves should be raked to the curb NOT in the roadway, LEAVES CAN BE PLACED IN A HOMEMADE BIN WITH STAKES AND WIRE FENCE TO CONTAIN LEAVES IN ONE
AREA, NO HIGHER THEN 36 INCHES AT THE CURB.

All residents on Township roads with DITCHES: please rake leaves TO the ditch line on your property NOT IN DITCH, leaves may also be placed in a
homemade bin.

Bagged leaves will NOT be accepted.

Leaf piles with sticks, branches, grass clippings or anything other than leaves will NOT be picked up.

Areas with normally heavy concentrations of leaves will receive at least two passes.

ORDINANCE #2005-42 YARD WASTE IN ROADWAY - Penalties to include fines up to $1250.00.  DO NOT PLACE LEAVES IN THE ROADWAY.

LEAF DROP OFF:

Leaf drop off will be accepted on the following dates in November/December at the site on AUTEN ROAD opposite the Auten Road school fields and next
to the RR tracks.  The hours will be from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on:

Saturday November 10*
Friday November 16*
Saturday November 17*
Saturday November 24*
Saturday December 1*
Saturday December 8*
Saturday December 15**
Friday December 21*

HOURS: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Only leaves will be accepted no brush or debris.  If your leaves are bagged please dump the leaves and take the bag(s) with you.

 Streetlight Out?

Please click here to fill-out a form on the PSE&G website or call 1-800-436-PSEG (7734).  The following information will be required to report the streetlight problem:  (a)  location of the street light, (b)  the nearest cross street and (c) the pole number; usually located on a metal strip attached to the pole. 

Important note: If you are reporting more than one street light outage, each light/pole will require a separate Internet Order.
