The Planning Department is the administrative staff of the Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Adjustment. The Planning Board is responsible for creating the Master Plan, preparing zoning laws (known as Ordinances) and approving all development in the Township.

The Planning Department provides the professional direction and support to both Boards and processes all the applications submitted for development. The Environmental, Historic and Industrial Commissions are arms of these two Boards and give advice to the Boards pertaining to specific issues and concerns in a development plan. These Commissions rely on the Planning Department to structure their meetings and provide reports to the Boards.
