In keeping with the Township Committee’s continuing effort to upgrade the municipality’s public communication and information systems, Hillsborough has joined the millions of microbloggers on Twitter and invites residents to follow @mayordelcore to receive important updates about the community.
Mayor Frank DelCore stated, “Joining Twitter was the next logical step in trying to make important information easily accessible to the residents. We are constantly looking for new ways to get information out to the community. Twitter is a communication phenomenon that allows recipients to receive quick, short messages directly to personal internet accounts or mobile devices.”
“Those who follow the Township’s notices on Twitter can expect to receive announcements of road closures due to accidents, Recreation field closings, emergency notifications and other important information, “ continued Mayor DelCore, “the Township will not be inundating residents with everyday, trivial information but rather using Twitter as an important communication tool to provide instant emergency notifications.”
Unlike the Township’s Enewsletter, tweets will not be sent out on a regular basis; they will only be sent out when it is necessary to get important information out to the community.
“This is just one more way the Township Committee is working to make local government more resident friendly and accessible. In today’s busy world, convenience is extremely important and nothing is more convenient than information at your fingertips,” added Deputy Mayor Bob Wagner.
